‘This course presents the pure and unadulterated thrill of painting in its rawest form’ St Ives School of Painting
Landscape Painting and Natural Pigments
This 3 day course will guide participants through some of the processes of making artist’s oil and acrylic paint with pigment. It will provide an opportunity to create work in the landscape. The first day focuses on paint making and paint making techniques in the studio and the second and third days will be painting at site specific locations on the Penwith Heritage Coast and a 2 acre painting field. The field has panoramic views as far as the Scilly Isles with 5 bespoke large scale easels. All materials provided inc pigment, paper and canvas, but you are welcome to bring sketchbooks, brushes etc. More canvases can be purchased at an extra cost.
Plant Dye Courses
Learn some of the processes of natural dyes from plants around you and in the hedgerows, also, take the opportunity to use an indigo dye vat. Participants will experiment with a range of silk and cotton fabric. All materials are provided but welcome to bring extra fabric. Available on request
Courses are £350.00 per person for the three days or 5 day courses are £450.00 and include all materials, canvases, paper, paints, binders and brushes, dyes, cotton and silk fabrics and use of studio. Courses outside of these dates can be arranged for groups of three or more.

*5 Day Residential courses in April, May, June, July & Aug: use of indoor and outdoor studios, tutoring upon request by two artists, gallery visits, pigment site visits, painting on the coast and stay in artist’s rural retreat on the SW coast path.

For the more advanced artist looking to delve into their work more deeply. The pupil will be given their own studio for the week and accommodation but provides own materials (materials can be supplied at an extra cost) .
